In Doctor Strange 2, Elizabeth Olsen’s character Wanda Maximoff met a horrible end, but the actress’s Marvel contract clarifies if Scarlet Witch will return to the MCU. Many of the MCU’s original Avengers actors’ contracts have expired, bringing their arcs in the franchise to a close. Examples include Chris Evans’ Captain America retiring and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man dying. Following Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch’s apparent death in Doctor Strange 2, Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU future may be following in the footsteps of her fellow Avengers.
Olsen first debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where she played Wanda Maximoff in a brief post-credits sequence. Following her role in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which Wanda was introduced as an adversary to the Avengers, Olsen reprised her role in five more Marvel films: Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2017), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Disney+’s WandaVision series (2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2019). (2022). Due to Scarlet Witch’s demise in Doctor Strange 2, Olsen’s future in the MCU is less apparent after nearly a decade in the franchise.
Doctor Strange 3: Everything We Know
The Wanda Maximoff actress originally signed a two-movie and cameo deal with Marvel, but her contract was extended every time she featured in another project. Olsen has had her contract with Marvel extended numerous times, but she has yet to announce what the future holds for her in terms of yet another change. While Elizabeth Olsen’s Marvel contract is officially over, she told Collider that she doesn’t consider Doctor Strange 2 to be the end of her MCU appearances because her deal is “constantly altering.”
Will the Scarlet Witch make an appearance in Doctor Strange 2?
Despite Elizabeth Olsen’s comments regarding her contract implying that Scarlet Witch will return after Doctor Strange 2, she has yet to confirm a new deal and does not want spoilers. Of course, this is a reference to Scarlet Witch’s death in Doctor Strange 2, in which Olsen’s character appears to sacrifice herself in order to finally destroy the Darkhold. As a result, Olsen appears to be unaware of Wanda Maximoff’s future in the MCU. In Doctor Strange 2, the Scarlet Witch appears to have died.Olsen added that if she were asked back as Wanda, she has no idea what role she would play. Elizabeth Olsen isn’t sure what the future holds for Scarlet Witch in the MCU, whether it’s a cameo, full feature, TV appearance, or standalone film, but she sounds optimistic that her character will return.
Because Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Illuminati-themed narrative is still new, Marvel may be holding off on confirming the status of Elizabeth Olsen’s contract until a suitable amount of time has elapsed. If the MCU announced her signing on for another film right away, it might lessen the impact of Scarlet Witch’s death at the end of Doctor Strange 2. However, rumours of a Scarlet Witch solo film have already circulated, while some predict Wanda’s comeback opposite White Vision. The MCU is also known for bringing back people that have died, with fans assuming that if they don’t see a body, the character will return. The character’s death has not been confirmed. After Doctor Strange 2, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch fits into this rule, therefore the MCU cast member’s return looks inescapable.
