Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been lost.

After signing on to play the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elizabeth Olsen says she started losing gigs. Olsen initially featured as Wanda Maximoff in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron, alongside her twin brother Pietro, who played Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Olsen had previously starred in a variety of films, including Godzilla (also starring Taylor-Johnson) and Old Boy (both released in 2013). Her ever-expanding position in the Marvel Universe has seen her appear in a number of films, most notably in the highly anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Is it true that Marvel just killed out a key Doctor Strange character?

Despite her status as the MCU’s leading lady, Olsen has now admitted that her involvement with the MCU has actually hampered her in certain respects, including the loss of other opportunities. Olsen recently spoke with The New York Times on how her Marvel contract resulted in her losing other parts due to the time commitment that comes with such a role. The actress talked about losing a role in 2015’s The Lobster, which she described as “heartbreaking.” Below is a quote from Olsen.

Olsen went on to talk about the idea of a standalone Scarlet Witch picture in the future, saying that it would have to be a “wonderful plot” before adding that she believes Marvel films are best when they have a “really strong point of view.” Olsen’s future in the MCU is unclear, despite the fact that she is said to have recently renewed her contract with the studio for another seven years. Meanwhile, viewers will soon be able to see Olsen in the part of Candy Montgomery in HBO Max’s new series Love & Death, which is based on the actual story of a Texas housewife charged with murder in the 1980s.

Long-term contracts for actors can be one of the drawbacks of working with a major company, as Emily Blunt notably turned down the role of Black Widow in the MCU due to a schedule issue for the film Gulliver’s Travels. While Olsen claims to have no malice toward Marvel for losing these parts, it’s fair to assume that missing out on films that would allow these performers to explore various characters and stories must be a source of sadness. With Olsen embarking on this exciting new endeavour outside of the Marvel universe, it will be fascinating to see what kind of roles she will play next.
