Three UCLA basketball players were detained in China on charges of shoplifting while traveling with the team last Tuesday. As the team departed on Saturday, the three students involved in the shoplifting incident had remained in China as charges were pending. President Trump intervened while on his 12-day tour of Asia to negotiate the immediate release of all three players. As of Tuesday, November 14th all three UCLA basketball players are on their way home with no one other than President Trump to thank.
Because of President Trump’s efforts these three young men are on their way home to their families, which is what we should consistently hope for when Americans are jailed overseas. President Trump did reveal that he spoke with Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding the incident involving the UCLA basketball players. No less than 24 hours after the conversation, all three players were released.
The three players involved in the shoplifting incident in China included, LiAngleo Ball, Jalen Hill, and Cody Riley. The People’s Republic of China outlines a 3 – 10 year prison term if found guilty of the charges that were pending against the trio. President Trump made the following statement regarding the release:
“What they did was unfortunate. You know, you’re talking about very long prison sentences. They do not play games.”
The actions taken by President Trump fly in the face of all accusations of racism that have been leveled against him by members of the political left. Almost every week we hear accusations of racism hurled at the President while those whom direct the accusations ignore the behaviors that prove otherwise. President Trump had no obligation to negotiate the release of these three young men, but he did so regardless. An action that directly contradicts the modus operandi of a racist ego.
As time marches on we can expect more left-stream media outlets to ignore the positive highlights of President Trump’s Administration. Especially any highlights that squarely contradict accusations the liberal progressive agenda heaves towards the Oval Office.
