On Friday, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) filed a federal lawsuit against President Trump’s 2016 campaign, the Russian Government, and WikiLeaks. The lawsuit alleges that the Trump campaign, WikiLeaks, and the Russian government conspired in order to influence the 2016 presidential election.

In the lawsuit, the DNC claims that top officials of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government and its military spy outfit, Main Intelligence Directorate, in an effort to hurt Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and tilt the scales towards Donald Trump through hacking of the Party’s servers.

The lawsuit alleges that the Trump campaign “gleefully welcomed Russia’s help,” in the election while acting as “racketeering enterprise” that worked in coordination with Russia. The lawsuit calls attention to the Trump campaign’s “gleeful” acceptance of Russia’s “help” though, in reality, they are referring to a joke President Trump told on the campaign trial.  The joke was in reference to Hillary Clinton deleting over 30,000 emails that were under congressional subpoena, which is obstruction of justice according to U.S. Federal Attorneys.

“During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy and found a willing partner in Donald Trump’s campaign,” said the Chairman of the DNC, Tom Perez. “This constituted an act of unprecedented treachery,” concluded Perez. It was very important for the DNC to include a line referring to the Russian effort being “unprecedented” since President Barack Obama claimed that it was “impossible” to rig an American election yet, this is precisely what they allege in the lawsuit.

President Trump responded rather quickly via Twitter, “Just heard the Campaign was sued by the Obstructionist Democrats.” President Trump continued, “This can be good news in that we will now counter for the DNC Server that they refused to give to the FBI, the Debbie Wasserman Schultz Servers and Documents held by the Pakistani mystery man and Clinton Emails.”

President Trump was referring to Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, who chaired the DNC at the time they were allegedly hacked, and a Pakistani information technology employee of the United States House of Representatives who the Inspector General found to have improperly accessed congressional servers. It was recently revealed that Wasserman-Schultz waived the background checks for the Pakistani IT employee and his family, one of which who’s highest prior line of employment was a McDonalds line worker. There have been many red flags raised in this case and many have speculated that its conclusion will be nothing short of explosive.

The Trump 2020 campaign has already issued their rebuttal in which they refer to the lawsuit as a “desperate” fundraising ploy. “This is a sham lawsuit about a bogus Russian collusion claim filed by a desperate, dysfunctional. And nearly insolvent Democratic Party,” said campaign manager Brad Parscale.

The defendants named in the lawsuit include those who have been indicted for process crimes as it pertains to the special counsel’s investigation into Russian meddling; George Papadopoulos and Rick Gates. Also named in the lawsuit are Paul Manafort, who has been indicted on money laundering charges unrelated to Russian collusion, Donald Trump Jr, Roger Stone, and Jared Kushner.

To date, there has been no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government nor have there been any indictments pertaining to Russian collusion of any sort.

Three U.S. intelligence agencies claimed that the Russian government sponsored the hacking of the DNC computers however, it remains unclear how they arrived at that conclusion without ever having access to the DNC’s servers. The FBI was refused access to the DNC servers by Debbie Wasserman-Schultz after they were told Russia was attempting to hack their servers. The Russians also attempted to hack the Republican National Committee’s servers though, those efforts were thwarted after party officials granted the FBI access. Both political parties were notified about the Russian efforts to hack into their systems, but only one properly responded.

The Democratic Party is blaming Russia for various breaches to their computer systems dating back to 2015 and the first half of 2016. The Democratic National Committee refuses to grant the FBI access to party servers to this day.

The accusations listed in the lawsuit are supported by various pieces of information that are publicly available, most of which are news articles and media reports. The lawsuit alleges nothing new nor have they presented any new information that would tie the Kremlin to the Trump campaign. They have taken their verbal accusations, put them on paper, and filed them in a New York City courthouse, nothing more.

On Sunday, April 20, NPR’s OnPoint fielded calls from an angry democrat base. Callers were furious with the DNC and how it is spending money at a time when their fundraising efforts are, to say the least, lacking. One caller concentrated on how the Democratic Party needs to focus on supporting local races so they can invigorate their base from the grassroots instead of funding a lawsuit that is redundant in light of the special counsel.

It could get even worse for the DNC’s lawsuit since it appears the special counsel has already ruled out Russian collusion as it pertains to the Trump campaign, the special counsel has detailed that no Americans were wittingly involved in the Russian effort to sow discord. The Comey memos completely rule out any possibility of obstruction of justice since President Trump encouraged the Russian meddling investigation. This leaves the DNC appearing to fanatically pursue a conspiracy theory for which they have not presented a single piece of empirical evidence. The kicker is, they don’t even have the resources to pursue such a lawsuit.

The FEC filing at the end of fiscal 2017 showed the Democratic National Committee had only $6.5 million cash on hand with $6.1 million in debt, which means their operating capital to start 2018 amounted $423,000. Tom Steyer, one of the Democratic Party’s biggest billionaire donors, has pulled his donations to the DNC to fund commercials calling for the President’s impeachment. To put this into prospective, the Republican National Committee started 2018 with $38.8 million cash on hand with zero debt.

Another reason why this lawsuit is being referred to as a fundraiser is because it has been reported that Tom Perez hates the fundraising aspect of Chairing the DNC and his efforts to do so pale in comparison to his Republican counterpart, RNC Charwoman Ronna McDaniel.

Vice News, a left leaning news outlet, recently quoted a Democratic Party official as saying, “Tom is just really miserable in the job, which is part of why it’s not going well.” “He hates the fundraising,” said the Democratic official. Media reports describing his counterpart serve as a stark comparison between the two. “A relentless fundraiser who spends up to six hours a day on the phone wringing money from donors, [McDaniel] has helped put the party in a formidable financial position,” reports the New York Times regarding RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

We cannot overlook what this ultimately is; an outright refusal to accept the results of a fair and legal presidential election. We already know that vote counts were not altered in order to throw the election into either direction, the FBI has already testified this to this fact before Congress.

During the 2016 presidential election every democrat in the country was slamming candidate Trump for refusing to commit to accepting the election results, including Hillary Clinton. In an October 19, 2016 debate, Clinton called President Trump’s refusal “horrifying,” adding he was “talking down our democracy.” Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated, “just when you think you have seen it all from Donald Trump, he stoops to a new low with his contempt for the sanctity of our elections.” Now it appears that the Democratic National Committee is guilty of, as Nancy Pelosi said, stooping to a “new low” with their “contempt for the sanctity of our elections” with the introduction of this lawsuit.

Republican candidate Donald Trump was refusing to commit his acceptance to an event that had yet to take place, and many Americans agreed candidate Trump even though politicians from both sides of the aisle chided his response. The Democratic National Committee is refusing to accept the results of a fair and free election that took place a year and a half ago and was certified by the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). Truly an audacious move that President Trump would have trouble clearing but none the less, still they persist.

Maybe an honest and objective reporter could ask the FEC for their reaction to the Democratic National Committee’s decision to spit on their election certification through frivolous litigation. But that question will never come as it seems this fundraiser masquerading as a lawsuit will disappear within a matter of weeks. The DNC would dread the possibility of a discovery process that would most certainly include them handing over the very servers they still refuse to allow the FBI to examine. If they refuse to allow the FBI to examine their servers in order to be protected from Russian hacking, there is no way they will allow their political adversaries to gain access. After all, there must be a reason the DNC STILL refuses to allow the FBI access to their computer systems to this day.
