Why Doesn’t Vision (Or White Vision) Exist in the Multiverse of Madness?

Despite the movie focused so extensively on Scarlet Witch’s plot, Vision (and White Vision) do not feature in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – but why? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular sorcerer, with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch playing the film’s villain, who is attempting to gain the multiverse-jumping powers of Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez so that she can be with her children. Wanda’s aims are good, but her methods to get there are terrible and tragic, as evidenced by the deaths of her better half, Vision, and her made offspring, Billy and Tommy.

Vision, played by Paul Bettany, is Ultron’s synthetic robot who gains sentience early on and falls in love with Wanda. The couple went into hiding following the events of Captain America: Civil War, where their love bloomed, but their romance was cut short when Thanos came for the Mind Stone in Vision’s head in Avengers: Infinity War. This led Wanda to kill Vision, only for Thanos to use the Time Stone to rewind the moment and take it anyhow, killing Vision in the process.Wanda was pushed into an emotional spiral after Vision’s death, and she went on to take over an entire town, Westview (as seen in WandaVision), and turn it into a sitcom-style world where she controlled everything, including projecting a version of Vision and making children for them. She is eventually compelled to turn everything off and retire to an isolated location, where she continues to use the Darkhold book of magic to try to bring her loved ones back.

Doctor Strange’s Ending In The Multiverse Of Madness Revealed (In Detail)

During Wanda’s stay in Westview, SWORD dispatched a newly made Vision, dubbed White Vision, to confront Wanda’s projected version. The projected Vision gives White Vision his memories during that conversation, effectively making him the new Vision, who flees the town and has not been seen in the MCU since. Vision is mentioned a few times but never seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Instead,Wanda appears to be fully focused on being reunited with her children in an alternate world, but she makes no mention of wishing to bring Vision back, let alone what she would do if his presence in that new reality called into question or disputed her presence. “The kids are part of [Wanda’s] myth as well,” Olsen later said to Collider, explaining that her decision to find a reality with just Wanda and the kids, rather than one with Vision and the kids, was based on mother instinct. That, I believe, is also a factor. I believe that once you become a mother, the loss of your child is more devastating than any other loss you may face. That is true.

In other universes, why isn’t Vision with Wanda’s children?

While other universes may have numerous Visions, Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is merely hunting for one where he isn’t. According to Olsen, the choice was taken early on to have Wanda look for a reality where she, Billy, and Tommy were alone. “They separated and divorced. They’ve split up. There’s a reason she’s not wearing a wedding band “Olsen explained. So, Vision may exist in that realm, but he isn’t with the family for a variety of reasons. The hitch is that in order for Wanda to locate a reality where it was just Wanda and the kids, she would have to do rid of the other Wanda, demonstrating her obsessive and wicked plans to do whatever it takes to accomplish what she wants. It also avoids the issue of killing a Wanda in another universe, which could have major consequences in that universe. It’s essentially a desperate deed motivated by grief.

During Doctor Strange 2, where is White Vision?

When White Vision (re)gained his memories from the projected Vision and flew out the Westview Library window after stating, “I am Vision,” he was last seen. Doctor Strange 2 picks up after WandaVision has gone into hiding with the Darkhold book, but White Vision is nowhere to be found. It’s unclear where White Vision is or what he’s up to, but now that he’s free of SWORD’s influence, he’s certainly planning a major comeback, especially given his general intelligence and power, as well as his profound affection for Wanda.

Ignoring Vision in Doctor Strange 2 Makes Scarlet Witch’s Story Worse

Wanda’s tale after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron is so intertwined with Vision’s that having him just addressed a couple times in Doctor Strange 2 feels like a disservice. With White Vision now fully awake and his memories implanted, having him appear in Multiverse of Madness would have brought the two characters’ intertwined journey full circle, maybe towards the end to assist Wanda in regaining her senses. While it’s understandable that Wanda would wish to find her created offspring, it’s also worth noting that the children are a result of both Wanda and Vision in her fantasy world, making him the father.Whether real or imagined With so much of Wanda’s anguish emanating directly from Vision’s death, which was shown again in WandaVision, many concerns regarding her genuine sentiments and intentions remain unresolved. Although the Darkhold book may be to blame for most of her behaviour throughout the film, it still creates a vacuum in her trip that can only be filled by Vision’s return.
